We are committed to bringing diverse voices not only in the books and authors we publish but also within our company. We strive to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace that embraces a wide range of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences, where each individual can be their true selves and thrive to do their best work.
Our Initiatives
#Embracing talent beyond resumes
The leaders at Penguin Random House India are committed to creating a work culture that supports and nurtures all talent and creates fair opportunities for anyone who wants to build their careers with us. They ensure that all key people’s decisions, including hiring, are made in full transparency and free from any unconscious biases. To do so they undergo specially designed workshops. These workshops focus on equipping the hiring decision-making leaders to be aware of unconscious bias, its impact, and ways to change it to make bias-free and talent-based decisions.
In our pursuit of building a dynamic and inclusive team, we’ve broken the conventional norms of recruitment. At our company, it’s not just about resumes; it’s about embracing diversity and recognizing talent in all its forms. To achieve this, we’ve implemented several strategies in our recruitment process.
This approach allows us to assess each candidate’s potential to contribute to our team regardless of their background or previous roles.
#BreakingBias
At Penguin Random House India, we pride ourselves on our creative, entrepreneurial, and values-driven approach to publishing. We support a work environment where topics can be discussed openly and honestly, with mechanisms to address difficult issues without fear of reprisal. We are committed to our Code of Conduct principles, embodying these values and leading by example.
It is of utmost importance that we learn the art of approaching our work and decision making without any biases. Recognising our inherent biases and opening our minds to different perspectives is critical. To foster the same and to overcome hidden prejudices our people undergo workshops such as “Uncovering Unconscious Bias”, “Creating Psychological Safety” and “Gender Sensitivity”.
#JoyOfReading campaign
#JoyOfReading is a community outreach program aligned with our vision: “Stories and Ideas to entertain and inform everyone, everywhere.” As Penguin turned 35, we aimed to create a social impact by promoting reading. We take books to all kinds of readers, whether offline or digital, internal or external, avid readers or first-generation readers, at home or in their cozy nooks. A few partnerships we are proud of include:
We partnered with Books in the Delhi Metro, a non-profit entity, to organize a 2-week celebration during the year-end festive season. PRHI books were available at metro stations across Delhi NCR for readers to spot, pick, read and pass on ahead to the next excited reader.
World Book Day 2023 was special as we partnered with Apollo Hospital to bring smiles to recovering patients. Doctors shared our books on health, well-being, and happiness with their patients, ensuring they could learn more about leading a healthy life.
#Influencer Series
In our effort to bring forth diverse voices to our employees, we invite authors who represent different communities and champion various causes. These sessions cover topics like women’s leadership, multi-regional workforce, and LGBTQ+ representation. We’ve had the pleasure of hearing from notable voices such as Onir, a prominent LGBTQ+ inclusivity advocate, and Christine Amour-Levar, a French-Swiss-Filipina philanthropist and human rights advocate who champions women’s leadership. We are committed to continuing these enriching sessions for our employees.
#D&I Council
In order to build a collaborative platform, we have formulated a D&I Council which works closely with the management to champion and implement the initiatives that foster a culture of Diversity & Inclusivity. The council members represent the diverse roles and voices in our organization. They play an integral role in taking the D&I agenda forward by sharing insights and inputs to shape our policies, processes, and programs and to act as the champions in raising awareness, challenging biases and be a support in building an inclusive environment for all. The foundation of all the mentioned strategies rests upon our Leadership team and the Diversity and Inclusion Council, tasked with upholding our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion. We are delighted to announce that 70% of our senior leadership comprises women, underscoring the inclusive work environment we’ve cultivated.
