Shelly Batra was born in 1960 in Lucknow. She received both her schooling and medical education in Lucknow, from La Martiniere Girls' School and King George's Medical College respectively. She has specialized in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and worked at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. She is an Honorary Consultant for several hospitals in New Delhi and her private practice focuses on high-risk pregnancy, foetal medicine and gynaecological surgery.
